Deny building a factory in China,LGD's OLED TV strategy changes?

Recently, there is news that LG display (LGD) will be in the construction of Guangzhou OLED project. In this regard, LGD has denied, and made it clear that "there is no such idea."". The past two years, OLED TV has become a hot industry, upstream panel supply capacity has also attracted much attention. As the world's only large-scale OLED panel supplier, how will LGD layout OLED technology? In the large-scale OLED technology is still controversial today, how should the OLED technology applied to the television field evolve?
LGD plans to expand OLED TV panel capacity
Despite denying rumors of investing in the OLED panel production line in Guangzhou, this does not mean that LGD has no expansion plan. It is said that in 2017, LGD is expected to provide 1 million 800 thousand OLED TV panels, compared with 2016 shipments of 900 thousand films, will show a doubling trend.
From the large size OLED layout, LGD two OLED TV plant in South Korea, are used in Oxide, White OLED backplane technology roadmap, one of which is Gen8.5 (E3) production line, mainly for the production of FHD OLED TV panel, capacity is 8K/M; the other one is the Gen8.5 (E4) production line, mainly the production of 4K OLED TV panel, capacity is 26K/M.
IHS senior research director Xie Qinyi told the China electronic news reporter, LGD's E4 plant will increase 26K/M capacity in the second half of 2017, and this year the total capacity of E4 plants will reach 52K/M. In addition, in 2018, LGD will also increase the third stage capacity for the E4 production line, still 26K/M. LGD is indeed expanding the capacity of the OLED TV panel.
In addition to the above OLED panel capacity, there is news that, LGD will also be in the Han Guojian 10.5 generation panel production line, but whether it is OLED or TFT-LCD, is currently not explicitly open to the public.

Tsinghua University professor Zhang Baizhe to China electronic news reporter revealed that, from the current stage of technology, LGD in Korea investment construction of the 10.5 generation line early stage will be LCD based, is expected to achieve mass production in February 2019. After 2020, LGD will consider turning the 10.5 generation line to the large-size OLED panel production.
With regard to the layout of the ultra generation TFT-LCD production line, LGD must have its own considerations. On the one hand, the global investment in the 10.5 generation of hot line, large-scale TFT-LCD technology competition is increasingly fierce. These years, LGD gradually slow down LCD panel investment, and if you miss this wave of 10.5 generation line investment boom, the future is difficult to speak in the super large panel field. On the other hand, OLED technology is still LGD's "killer", it is impossible to give up the market. With the growth of demand for large-size OLED panels, LGD needs to expand OLED production scale.
According to Hsieh forecast, 2018 OLED TV panel demand will reach 2 million 700 thousand, LGD will have to expand production capacity, or by China's BOE stable supply of OLED TV panel, in order to meet the market demand.
OLED TV is still praised"
The past two years, OLED technology gradually applied to the field of television, so that many color TV manufacturers began to OLED technology applied to high-end color TV market. In addition to the main push OLED TV LGE, SKYWORTH, Changhong, Konka and other manufacturers, this year, SONY, Panasonic and other foreign brands have also made clear the direction of OLED TV, there are already 13 brands launched OLED tv.
However, it is "the biggest problem now facing the development of OLED TV praised". In 2016, for example, SKYWORTH identified 200 thousand OLED sales targets, but the actual sales situation is less than half. SKYWORTH attributed it to "overall production impact and upstream panel supply limitations", which led to unexpected OLED TV sales.
From the global point of view, the current provider of OLED panels for television only LGD one, LGD OLED panel supply, determines the downstream manufacturers OLED TV capabilities. Last year, LGD executive Li Tinghan said in an interview with reporters, in terms of OLED capacity, in 2016 is expected to reach 1 million units, in 2017 will reach more than 1 million 500 thousand units. However, in fact, in 2016, OLED TV sold only 900 thousand units worldwide, and its sales in China did not meet expectations.

The basic reason, IHS Markit said, OLED TV panel manufacturing costs will continue to affect the growth of shipments is hindered. Since the development of large size OLED technology, large size process uncertainty is always restricted the highest threshold of OLED television, but also because of this, now in addition to LGD, the global panel manufacturers and no other real mass production of OLED TV panel, but on the sidelines.
What is the future of OLED TV this year? Many people in the industry are still looking forward to the OLED TV market. In addition to LGD plans to stop Full HD OLED TV panel production in 2017, and increase shipments, but also because SONY officially return to the OLED camp.
SONY Chinese chairman and President Takahashi Yo in an "Chinese electronic newspaper" reporter said, SONY in 2007 after the world's first OLED TV market, R & D did not stop the related technologies, but mainly used in radio and television and medical field display. In his view, OLED technology applied to the field of consumer electronics need to solve many problems, technical barriers have been resolved, it is time to achieve mass production. That's why SONY is back in the OLED market this year.
2019 print OLED TV panel will be mass production?
Objectively speaking, OLED TV to become the mainstream of the market is not realistic in the short term, especially to replace TFT-LCD to enter the TV market, there is still a long way to go, yield, cost and technical problems have become the problem urgently to be solved in front of the manufacturers. However, we are pleased that the panel manufacturers have not stopped large-scale OLED technology research and development, they are looking for a variety of technical solutions to achieve large-scale OLED.
IHS Markit reports that most OLED panel makers are trying to develop AMOLED panel manufacturing technology using inkjet printing, which is considered a viable way to reduce production costs. However, the soluble luminescent materials used in the process lead to lower performance, which is also a challenge for manufacturers.

Xie Qinyi on the "Chinese electronic newspaper" reporter said, the panel manufacturers are manufacturing process and some equipment and materials suppliers to cooperate in the development and optimization of ink-jet printing OLED panel, plans to 2019, OLED TV panel using inkjet printing technology to production.
In the view of Hsieh, 2019 is a chance to mass production of OLED panel is LGD printing manufacturers, in our country, Huaxing Power and the BOE also is expected to achieve mass production.
This reporter has learned that, at present, China Huaxing photoelectric has developed 31 inches FHD color inkjet printing AMOLED prototype, BOE also developed 30 inches FHD color inkjet printing AMOLED prototype. In accordance with such a technological evolution path, the future will be printed OLED technology applied to the field of color TV, will bring qualitative changes to the market.
Chinese Academy of Sciences, said Ouyang Zhongcan, printing OLED is on the eve of industrialization, the major manufacturers are focusing on. The Roll to Roll technology based on flexible substrate, printed TFT and printed display device can make the display as printed newspaper, and become the ultimate goal of print display. In the field of industry, both China and foreign countries are in the guidance period of printing display industrialization.
